In this episode, Gail, Catherine and Gerda discuss her lifelong commitment to creating art that bears witness to human experiences of conflict, disruption, loss, prejudice, and violence. Gerda chronicles her early life history as a Jew in Germany, including being on the last Kinder Transport to leave Germany, living in London and coming to live in Chicago. Recognized internationally for her Installation Art, Gerda exposes ‘man’s inhumanities to man’ with the hope of helping unite people and cultures across their differences. Gerda describes herself as a feminist and optimist who wants to do something about inhumanity all over the world.
” My art is a contribution to helping people be aware of social injustices around the world, historically and right now.” – Gerda Meyer Bernstein
