In this episode, Gail, Catherine and Patricia discuss how Patty’s work with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr—starting in her teens– was instrumental in shaping her life as a social activist and feminist. Dr. King called her a “woman warrior.” Through Patty’s vivid descriptions, we learn about the first women’s studies courses at a local Chicago university, the birth of the Women’s Liberation Union, and how the women’s movement in Chicago crossed class and race lines. As a clinical psychologist, Patty turned to theology—the language of faith and justice—for better answers to healing injustices. Her vision now also includes the arts as vehicles for connecting with a spirit larger than oneself.
